On the second day of the project week organized by the Institute of Art and Design Theory, students from the Art and Design Management MA program took part in two artist-led workshops. By the end of the day, their experiments had developed into an exhibition at the Infopark I Gallery.
On September 8, Hungarian and international students gathered at Infopark to work with two young artists active in Budapest's contemporary art scene, Éva Freund and Judit Kis. The program was organized by Szilvia Csanádi, art historian and professor at the Faculty of Art and Creative Industries.
Workshops
Éva Freund's workshop, Liminal Garden (Holographic Herbarium), focused on perception and on the transitional spaces within and around the university building - sidewalks, cracks, courtyards, and the plant life that inhabits them.
Through a guided visualization exercise and a walk, the first-year MA students joined the artist in searching for the often-overlooked living layers of the urban environment. Each participant selected a plant and transformed it into a digital image. Using a simple holographic effect, they then gave it the appearance of a floating presence. In this process, technology became a means of directing attention rather than creating distance.
In the Hemp Weaving workshop, visual artist Judit Kis introduced the origins of her Hemp Field project. The work reflects on the collapse of global systems as well as personal experiences of grief and burnout. What began as a deeply personal artistic process gradually became a strategy for survival.
Fresh hemp fibre provided the material foundation for the objects created during the workshop. Through intuitive, hands-on experimentation, the students explored the material's natural and cultural significance while reflecting on resilience, vulnerability, and renewal.
