METU Spring International Staff Training Week

METU welcomed international colleagues from around the world during its Spring 2025 International Staff Training Week, held between April 7–11 and organized by the International Coordination Office.

This semester's theme — "Exploring the Erasmus Program: Best Practices & Networking!" — brought together 20 participants from 11 countries (including Ireland, Turkey, Spain, Portugal, Kenya, South Africa, and more) to focus on sharing experiences and practices related to the Erasmus+ programme.

The event was officially opened by Dr. habil Péter Rada, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, who welcomed the participants and emphasized the strategic importance of international partnerships and knowledge exchange. Following the opening remarks, Fatima Weininger-Hollósi, Head of International Mobility Programs, presented an overview of METU’s active participation in international mobility initiatives, highlighting the university’s Erasmus+ engagement and the key roles and responsibilities of the International Coordination Office.

Throughout the week, participants engaged in a dynamic mix of professional sessions, campus tours, and cultural programs designed to foster international collaboration and community-building.

A key focus of the week was aligning the sessions with the core priorities of the Erasmus+ programme. The workshops and discussions addressed key topics such as the use of digital platforms (like the Erasmus Dashboard and Mobility Tool), the effective integration of incoming international students, and the importance of mentoring systems in supporting mobility participants. Particular attention was given to the themes of inclusion and equal opportunities, as well as sustainability in mobility planning — all of which reflect Erasmus+ policy priorities.

METU staff members Tímea Tohai-Oli and Kristóf Kovács presented our institution’s best practices in these areas, including the role of student mentors, integration activities, and digital solutions. Additionally, a dynamic and interactive workshop was led by Ágnes Sarolta Fazekas-Vinkovits from ELTE, titled “Equal Opportunities in Practice from an International Coordinator’s Perspective, which sparked insightful discussions on how to make international mobility more inclusive.

An International Fair at the Nagy Lajos Campus allowed METU students and staff to learn more about partner universities directly from visiting colleagues, while a guided city tour of Budapest offered a memorable cultural experience.

The program once again proved to be a valuable platform for professional development, intercultural exchange, and strengthening international partnerships.
