2026-10-15

Following its successful presentation at Vienna Design Week, Critical Utopia – Possible Futures arrives in Budapest. The exhibition, developed through a collaboration between Budapest Metropolitan University (METU) and Collegium Hungaricum Wien, showcases the creative work of university professors and students. It will be on view at the METU Gallery from 16 to 26 October 2026.
The Faculty of Art and Creative Industries at Budapest Metropolitan University presented Critical Utopia – Possible Futures at Vienna Design Week 2026 in collaboration with Collegium Hungaricum Wien. Participation in the international design festival provided an opportunity for METU students and professors to showcase their creative visions to a wider professional audience and engage in an international dialogue on contemporary art and design.
The exhibition now continues its journey in Budapest, offering local audiences the opportunity to discover the innovative works developed within METU's creative and academic community.

Critical Utopia – Possible Futures explores contemporary social, environmental and technological challenges through the perspectives of art and design. The exhibition features speculative design concepts, innovative material experiments, artistic installations and visual works that encourage visitors to imagine alternative futures and reflect on the role of creativity in shaping tomorrow.
A defining feature of the project is the creative dialogue between university professors and students, bringing together different levels of professional experience, artistic perspectives and experimental approaches. Their collaborative work highlights the value of interdisciplinary thinking and demonstrates how creative exploration and cooperation can contribute to imagining and shaping the future.

Primarily aimed at students and professionals in art, design, architecture and related creative disciplines, the exhibition also welcomes anyone interested in discovering new perspectives on the challenges and possibilities of tomorrow.
The exhibition is curated by: Dr. Zsuzsanna Pörczi and Anna Kudron.
