Apply for an Erasmus+ traineeship and gain work experience abroad! As an Erasmus+ intern, you can spend 2-12 months at a foreign company, hotel, or institution in EU countries and at companies in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Turkey with a grant of EUR 570 - 620 per month.

Eligibility Criteria

You must be an active, full- time student of METU

• At the time of application, you must have an active student status, which remains active throughout the Erasmus+ period. In the case of traineeship after graduation, the active student status is only necessary during the submission of the application and contract signing period. You can find out about the conditions for being an active student HERE. If you have any further questions, please contact the SIC.

• Mobility should be connected to your current studies and help your professional development - only apply to an institution where, based on the downloadable partner list, METU has a contract in your field of study. Visit our website for the partner list!

• In one study cycle (BA or MA) you can’t spend more than 12 months abroad with Erasmus+ 

• The duration of the planned mobility can be at least 2 (i.e. a semester or trimester) and a maximum of 12 months in your current training cycle/level.

• Have at least one completed semester at the time of application and at least two completed semesters by the time you start your mobility. For MA students, it is not necessary to have a completed semester.

• You must have an average of at least 3.0 (adjusted credit index) based on the grades of your last two active semesters. (In case of only one completed semester: the last semester) For first year MA students the average of the BA diploma is taken into account.

• If you are a graduate student, especially if you will be a graduate art student at the time of the mobility: you must also upload the approval of your supervisor and your thesis supervisor on the application form.

• Have the language skills required at the chosen host enterprise / university (usually at least B2 level) The language of instruction - which is most often English

• You can also do an internship during your last semester

Fresh graduate traineeship

As a graduate student, it is also possible to do an Erasmus+ traineeship within 1 year after obtaining your diploma

The general application conditions apply to graduate students as well, with the following additions:

  • Active student status is only required when submitting the application and for concluding the grant agreement.
  • The application must be submitted no later than 2 months before the absolutory. The conclusion of the grant agreement must also take place during the active student status. You can find more information about the absolutorium (final certificate) and the active legal status here or from SIC.
  • You must complete the internship within 12 months after graduation.

Where to apply

The organisation of the placement is entirely the responsibility of the applicant, including finding the placement site and agreeing the professional programme. This may seem like a daunting task at first, but it will allow you to take part in a placement that best suits your needs.   

The placement can therefore take place in any active private or public institution, company, SME, research institute, cultural institute, higher education institution outside Hungary (except for EU institutions and bodies, agencies coordinating EU programmes, national agencies, Erasmus National Agencies and EU bodies)  

Destination countries can be all EU Member States (except Hungary), Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Turkey.


Amount of grant

Winning applicants will receive a grant depending on the living conditions in the country of the institution applied for.

750 EUR per month: Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Portugal, United Kingdom.

690 EUR per month: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Poland.

How to apply

Applications can be submitted by filling in a Microsoft Forms questionnaire and uploading the required documents.  Applications can be submitted 3 times per academic year, 2 times in the spring semester and 1 time in the autumn semester.

The questionnaire will only accept answers during the open application period!

You need to upload the followings:

• Proof of language skills (a state-recognized language exam certificate or a certificate from the Foreign Language Institute or an advanced level graduation certificate)

• Proof of credit index - saved from Neptun (screenshot of academic averages), or BA diploma. Please ensure that the Neptun code is clearly visible on the document!

• Letter of motivation (300–500-word motivational letter in English. In the letter, explain what you want to study, which universities, why you chose them and what you expect from the mobility? Here you should explain not the personal but the academic aspects, explain how the international experience link with your studies at home.)

• Portfolio - Art students must also attach their portfolio showing their works. In the case of art students graduating at the time of the mobility, the consent of the supervisor and the thesis supervisor must also be uploaded. -IMPORTANT: please note that if you do not spend your last semester at home, it is not guaranteed that you will be able to graduate in that semester!

• Optional: Proof of academic achievement, social activity, for example TDK, OTDK, ESN, international student competitions, exhibition, volunteer work at METU, other professional recognitions. We will take these into account during the evaluation process.

• For non-Hungarian citizens: a valid residence permit/registration certificate or a copy of the document certifying refugee status.

• For applicants to North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey or Switzerland: "Contribution to data transfer in the case of data transfer to a third country" document, which can be downloaded from Coospace.

• In the case of traineeship, the 'Before the Mobility' part of the Learning Agreement for Traineeship has been completely completed. In the case of a voluntary internship, signed by the student and the host institution. In the case of a mandatory internship, signed by the student, the CareerCenter and the host institution.

Academic results from previous semester(s) downloaded from Neptun(Screenshot of academic averages) or BA degree. Please make sure that the Neptun code is clearly visible on the document you wish to send!

Applications submitted by the deadline and in due form will be assessed and approved by the METU International Committee, taking into account the documents submitted and the Erasmus+ project resources. 

The evaluation will be administered through an evaluation form. 

Applicants will be informed in writing of the outcome of the selection.

Conditions for contracting

  • Your student status must remain active during your whole Erasmus+ mobility period. (except for recent graduate traineeships).
  • You must have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), or any relevant insurance valid in the host country. Health insurance for non-Hungarian citizens with an independent insurer; Medicover insurance is not valid outside Hungary.
  • A valid liability insurance OR a declaration from the host institution that they don’t require one.
  • Valid student VISA, if relevant
  • You need a Learning Agreement for Traineeships signed by all parties
  • In one study cycle (BA or MA) you can only spend altogether 12 months abroad with Erasmus+
  • Filled and signed Step by Step Guide
  • Official bank account information (needed for transferring the grant)

The validity of your documents and obtaining any documents/certificates/permissions needed for your mobility is within your own responsibility!

All the documents mentioned in the list above are needed for signing your Grant Agreement.

The mobility must not take place without the signed Grant Agreement.

Conditions for successful completion of mobility

  • The student has no tuition fees or other payment obligations towards METU.  
  • The mobility must be completed within 30 days of the return home, but no later than 30 days after receipt of the certificate of the study period.
  • Certificate of period of study indicating the exact start and end dates of the mobility. The host party issues the certificate.  
  • Filled and signed ‘After the Mobility’ section of your Learning Agreement for Traineeships, including the exact start and end date of your mobility
  • Written report (1–2-page, 500 words minimum text document).  
  • Recognition of credits earned abroad in the case of a mandatory internship at METU.  
  • Completion of the EU survey

Important Information

  • If you decide to cancel your application, please let us know as soon as possible at erasmus@metropolitan.hu
  • Erasmus+ helps you to become self-sufficient. Of course, we are also here to help but will not solve your problems for you.
  • Get the documents needed for the Grant Agreement in time!
  • Without a properly filled Learning Agreement for Traineeships we cannot sign the Grant Agreement.

  • The bank account information required for the transfer of the grant can be obtained from your bank.
